Art – Paul Klee

Year 3 completed some incredible art work inspired by Paul Klee. They sketched an animal of their choice from the Stone Age then used complimentary colours and a choice of oil or chalk pastels to add colour.

Maths - Division

The children really enjoyed learning about division by sharing into equal groups by drawing on the tables!

Hello Yellow 2024

 

We had a fantastic day celebrating Hello Yellow. We learned about mental wellbeing and steps we can take to support our own mental health. The children created some fantastic paper sculptures to represent different emotions.

Stone Age Workshop

  

Y3 had a fantastic time at the Stone Age workshop. They investigated real bones, crafted stone age tools, played archery and cave painted. They showed so much knowledge about the Stone Age and had an amazing day! 

Djembe Drumming - Robins

The Robins are lucky enough to have begun their Djembe Drumming lessons with Rotherham Music this term. In their first lesson, they practised clapping and stomping to a beat and using drumsticks.

Spending time in the library

The children have really enjoyed sharing books and discovering what different kinds of stories are on offer in the school library.

DT Day 2024

Year 3 had a fantastic day on Friday making banana cupcakes for DT day. Highlights of the day included trying different fruits to see how sweet they were, making the cupcake mixture and of course getting to eat them!

VR Workshop

The children had a fantastic time at the Prime VR workshop, learning all about volcanoes. They learnt all about the different types and stages of a volcano in preparation for their next geography topic.

PE – Dance

In PE, the children have been learning a routine and creating their own dances to ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry. They came up with moves that symbolised fireworks and worked on their timing and performance skills.

Maths – 3D Shape

As part of our learning on 3D shape, we created our own models of different 3D shapes using cocktail sticks and Play-Doh.

 

2023/2024

Reading

We absolutely love reading across our school and in Year 3 we have been exploring a huge range of books and genres. Take a look at some of our fantastic readers.

Drumming

In Year 3, each class is lucky enough to receive 12 weeks of Djembe Drumming lessons from Rotherham Music. The children learn to create a range of rhythms and to drum along to songs.

Science Day

As part of British Science Week, under the theme of ‘time’ we revisited our learning on fossils and made our own fossils using candy floss and dog bones! We were also lucky enough to visit the space dome and see space and the planets in an immersive experience.

Art

In Art, we have focused on developing our painting skills this year. We have learnt about primary, secondary and tertiary colours and used colour mixing to create our own colour wheels.

 

Chinese Dragon Dancing

In celebration of Chinese New Year, we were lucky enough to take part in Chinese Dragon dancing. We learnt about some Chinese traditions and danced with props such as parasols and fans as well as the dragon.

History Day 2024

As part of History Day we immersed ourselves from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. We created some Celtic knots using our initials and learnt about the local history of Thurcroft, focusing on mining.

South Yorkshire Fire Safety

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue visited Year Three to talk to them about fire safety and road safety. The children learnt about how to stay safe in the event of a fire, the dangers of matches and lighters, the importance of smoke detectors and how to stay safe when travelling by car. The children showed lots of important knowledge and were so engaged and enthusiastic!

 

Stone Age Workshop

Year Three had a fantastic time on the Stone Age workshop. They took part in cave painting, hunting, looking at animal bones and creating Stone Age spears.

PE

Year 3 have loved their PE lessons this year and have particularly enjoyed Matball where they have been practicing throwing, catching and moving into space. We then used these skills to compete in an academy Matball tournament where all the children showed great teamwork, resilience and sportsmanship.
