Year 6

2025/2026

In History we have been learning about rationing during WW2 - we then created propaganda posters.

Y6 represented our academy fantastically on our trip to The Holocaust Centre - we are super proud of each and every one of them 🙂

We have began our learning all about WW2 - take a look at some our history/art work so far!

Here's a few pics from our reindeer run!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Y6 Christmas Concert and Crafts - we had a wonderful time getting into the Christmas spirit!

In Science, Year 6 enjoyed sorting a range of animals into various different groups through classification.

TJA came together to celebrate the Harvest Festival with a heartwarming sense of community and generosity. Our celebration took place at Thurcroft St Simon and St Jude Church, where Reverend Hayes kindly led a special ceremony for the pupils. The children listened, sang, and reflected on the importance of giving and caring for others.

Your donations will make a big difference to many local families, and we are so proud of our school community for showing such compassion. Thank you once again all for your kindness! The food items will go a long way in supporting those in need.

Y6 had a fantastic trip to Crucial Crew today, where they displayed great behaviour and asked some really insightful questions - well done Y6!

Year 6

2024/2025

Night Bus Hero

Last half term, we read the 'Night Bus Hero’ book We were lucky enough to receive a personalised video message from the author Onjali Q. Rauf.

History – Crime and Punishment

In history we have been looking at Crime and Punishment and how it has changed over time. We looked at punishments throughout the Tudor Period, Anglo-Saxons and Victorians. Take a look at some of our wonderful double page spreads.

Crucial Crew

At the beginning of Y6 we went on a visit to Crucial Crew – Life Wise Centre. We took part in a variety of workshops to understand how to stay safe in our environment.

Science

We learnt all about our circulatory system and how diet, exercise and drugs affect it. We were treated to a visit from Wales High School who conducted a heart dissection.

Religious Education

We spent the last half term learning about Christianity and the gospels. We discussed the phrase ‘What Would Jesus Do?’ and the importance it has to modern Christians. This linked with our Harvest Festival, which highlighted the importance of helping others.

Art

Year 6 spent the half term looking at the work of Sir Henry Moore, and explored patterns, shade and tone in their art learning through the half term, with some fantastic results!

2023/2024

Reading

We absolutely love reading across our school and in Year 6 we have been exploring a huge range of books and genres. Take a look at what we have looked at so far and what some of our children’s favourite titles are!

Science – Evolution

To end our science topic on evolution and inheritance we created a double page spread to showcase our learning. This gives children a chance to be creative and display their knowledge in different ways.

Art – Andy Warhol

Year 6 have really enjoyed learning about the artist Andy Warhol. They created some fantastic 3D pop-up art, inspired by the artist himself. It took a lot of time and patience to build the structures, but they all showed their incredible resilience!

Star pupils!

So far this year, children have been showing off how hard they have been working. To reward them, they can take home a personalised post card to show how brilliant they have been in school!

Year 6 SATs

The SATs take place over four days: Monday 13th May – Thursday 16th May

How can I support my child at home?

  • Read regularly
  • Practise times tables – TTRS
  • Practise spellings, focusing on the spelling rule
  • MyMaths homework
  • SPaG/Maths homework sent home each week

Residential

Mrs Moore and Miss Berresford visited Gulliver's Valley over the Easter holidays in preparation for our residential visit. We are SO excited for our trip there in July - there are so many fun activities planned!

Keep checking back on to the Year 6 page as we will be uploading lots of photographs showcasing our learning.
