Spanish

The intention of our MFL curriculum at Thurcroft Junior Academy is to develop an interest in and passion for learning other languages. Through enjoyable and stimulating lessons we aim to introduce the learning of the Spanish language and the understanding of its culture. Whilst developing the love of language, we hope to embed the essential skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing. We aim to build the children’s ‘culture capital’ so that they are aware of similarities and differences between cultures.

All children in KS2 are taught Spanish in a discreet weekly lesson, which is delivered by a specialist language teacher from a secondary academy. Our MFL curriculum has been designed to progressively develop skills in Spanish. This ensures children acquire a bank of vocabulary organised around topics, which each year is progressive, whilst regularly allowing opportunities for re-visiting and consolidating previous language taught.
